Negativity, Fear & A Delayed Posting
Interestingly enough yesterday I had considered dusting off my keyboard to blog on media, politics and entertainment that has feared us into an anti-social state of being. But my day time job has blessed me with plenty to do and my free time with spent with my daughter and wifey so blogging hasn’t been a top priority.
Then Boston bombings hit today. More than even yesterday my thoughts are towards the fear we are bullied into. There’s a world full of good people. Cities full of good samaritans. However local, national, and international news shows the bad the bad the bad. Talk about instilling paranoia and anxiety in our overload society. We are in the constant mix of WiFi videos and headlines with ever shrinking story sizes. It’s a brain washing that technology has helped the sick and attention starved get their message to ears that otherwise would never have registered the information.
I’m not saying can your cell phone and laptops and get rid of the cable, but dare I suggest having the will power to pull away from constant coverage of the same tragedy presented mostly for ratings. Dare I suggest having the self-discipline to limit the hours spend with glowing messages engaging all of your attention and controlling your emotions, fears and impulses.
Back to School Shopping List…
…Markers, Composition Books, Book Bag, Acoustic Guitar (?!)
I click a link for Back to School Shopping on a popular website. I’m hoping to see things I ACTUALLY need for my daughter for school.
Gap T-Shirts, Raybans, Converse Shoes, Bikes, iPhone, Acoustic Guitars, and Mini Fridges don’t exactly sound like it’s going to do anything for my daughter’s academic career. Click on the picture to see the items larger. Seriously?!
This may explain why America’s children rank #1 for self-confidence and #50 or so for reading and math.
Now to decide…iPhone or Samsung Galaxy III… which one will boost her Social Science grades? That’s like how well she does on Facebook and Twitter, right?
New AIDS? (e_e)
I’m so tired of hearing about the new AIDS. All of a sudden?
Or is it that Yahoo News needed something to get people talking about Y! and stopping by to read more.
Literally three people TODAY have told me about it. Oh the instant hysteria.
Humanity will cease to exist, not from all of the diseases that seem to surround us these days but, from the shear magnitude of our collective sustaining anxiety.
The Woman Who Tanned Too Much…
and allegedly let her daughter in the tanning bed — WHY is she STILL on the TV? Everytime I walk by a television she is freaking on there. Really, it’s not that amazing, or tragic, or anything else. There’s amazingly positive and tragic things going on in the world around us. Hunger, miracles, and everything in between. Focus on that breaking news.
North Carolina Amendment 1 Passed. Way to go…
…now not only will gays not have family rights, but your common law marriages that are oh so common have been stripped of their rights too.
Oh? You didn’t know that was included?
That’s why you don’t vote based on what some nice toothless hillbilly with a picket-style sign tells you instead of reading about it yourself.
Field Trip Chaperons
After being one of the few chaperons on my daughter’s most recently field trip, I’ve become aware of a commonality when chaperoning. Only the parents of the relatively well-behaved kids volunteer for what ends up being a personal reminder of why my daughter is an only child. The bad ass kids, who need a chaperon… their own one on one chaperon, don’t have parents who show up to accompanying them.
I suspect there’s some embarrassment as they know they can’t control their child and that’s why junior is a raving nut in public with me. Or they are just truly too lazy to get up before noon to shower and leave their home…again, another evidence of why I’m pulling children out of the prohibited areas of museum exhibits.
There should be a mandate that if your offspring is a rapscallion then you have to go on the field trip so I can save money on Excedrin and red wine later.
